In its eighth year, the Children’s Festival is a family-friendly afternoon celebrating the power of theatre in the lives of children. “We’re looking forward to a wonderful event for our community focusing on family fun,” says Imagination Stage Founder and Executive Director Bonnie Fogel. Chaired by Jessica Boger and Dianne Lee, this year’s Children’s Festival transports families to a tropical getaway with an action-packed performance of Escape from Peligro Island: You Create Your Own Adventure for children five and older or a You & Me Island Song Circle for ages one to four. Guests will enjoy a buffet reception, fun activities and crafts, an onstage dance party, and a mystery raffle. Proceeds from the Children’s Festival benefit Imagination Stage’s theatre and arts education programs, which reach more than 100,000 children and families in the DC region each year. Imagination Stage’s production of Escape from Peligro Island: You Create Your Own Adventure - written by Finegan Kruckemeyer and directed by Associate Artistic Directory Kathryn Chase Bryer - provides the theme for this event. In this one-of-a kind production, audience members will use a paddle to cast their vote on choices throughout the show. From the moment the play begins, the fate of our young hero, Callaway Brown, is in their hands. Will he time travel to the Wild West and meet a talking horse? Develop superpowers and fight crime in the future? Or have a crush on a vampire? The choice is up to the audience, and there are 70 different ways the story could go! During the show, children four and younger and their caregivers can attend an exclusive You & Me Island Song Circle. Children are invited to an imaginary island in this interactive musical experience. In this workshop, an Early Childhood Teaching Artist accompanied by a live percussionist guides participants through a musical exploration of a children's book, complete with instrument play, movement activities, and more. Family 4-Packs ($500), Family 5-Packs ($600) and Individual tickets ($150) are available, and sponsorship packages begin at $1,000.
