Imagination Stage Wins Outstanding Production- Theatre for Young Audiences at the 35th Annual Helen Hayes Awards BETHESDA, MD (May 14, 2019) At the 35th Annual Helen Hayes Awards, held Monday, May 13, Imagination Stage received eleven nominations and won two Helen Hayes Awards, including Outstanding Production – Theatre for Young Audiences for the second year in a row for You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Emily Lotz won Outstanding Set Design – Hayes for The Princess & The Pauper – A Bollywood Tale. These two wins mark 11 Helen Hayes Award wins and 61 nominations since the founding of Imagination Stage’s professional theatre in 1992. “We are delighted to be recognized in so many of the Hayes categories from design, to acting and direction,” said Imagination Stage Founding Artistic Director Janet Stanford. “It’s a tribute to the Washington theatre community which shares its talents with young people as well as adults.” Three Imagination Stage productions were nominated for awards this year. The Princess & The Pauper – A Bollywood Tale was nominated both for Outstanding Production- Theatre for Young Audiences and for Outstanding Set Design by Emily Lotz. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown was nominated for Outstanding Production – Theatre for Young Audiences, Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical, Outstanding Set Design by Nate Sinnott, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical for Michael J. Mainwaring, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for Awa Sal Secka. Cinderella was nominated for Outstanding Production in a Musical, Outstanding Direction in a Musical by Kathryn Chase Bryer, Outstanding Costume Design by Ivania Stack, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for Awa Sal Secka.
